Re: Altec Magnificant Wooden Grills - battered but available

As I understand it, all these beautiful die-cut wooden grills were supplied to Altec, JBL and others from Japan in the good old days. Anyone out there with damaged 1960s Altec Magnificent, Malibu, Valencia etc. grills would do well to obtain these, as otherwise impossible artful repairs could be made.

The snail tracks are glue - I tried getting of a section with a razor blade, and it works quite well. Also have a small bottle of touch up paint I am happy to include.

it would be possible to pull a silicone mold off the good part to make patches.

Re: Altec Magnificant Wooden Grills - battered but available

I was planning to 'downsize' the grills to the size of my modified Magnificents. Cutting and patching the grills seemed pretty feasible (and a fun project). As I said, ended up liking the speakers without grills (or more importantly, my wife did).
